Thoughts On Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix was the first guitar player that made me stop in my tracks and say out loud"How Is he doing that?" I was saying this to myself in 1989, but i think a lot more people were asking themselves this uestion when he first appeared on the international scene in England in late 1966. Hendrix arrived in London late in that same year, and within a week had blown the minds of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Pete Townshend. Years after his death, Clapton commented that the first time he heard Jimi play his jaw dropped to the floor.

If you play guitar, Hendrix has influenced you. Never mind if you don't think he has, he has. Think of any modern guitarist you like, any band, if it weren't for Hendrix, they would not sound like they do. His innovative use of effects can't be overstated. You basically can't plug in a wah pedal without referencing Jimi.

The world has not been the same since 1967; the year The Jimi Hendrix Experience released "Are You Experienced". Amazingly, Hendrix only realized three complete studio albums in his short four year career. However, he managed to pack in about ten guitarists' careers worth of soul and innovation in that time.

Young people all over the world are continually rediscovering Jimi Hendrix's music. His records have sold on average of 2 million a year since his untimely death in 1970. So i raise to you the readers, the question, Is Hendrix The Greatest Rock Guitarist Of All Time?

Please Debate!

All this Led Zep video I might say you favor Jimmy Page over Jimmy H. Is Stevie Ray a rock guitarist? Maybe that's another debate. What about Clapton? The stuff he did with The Yardbirds and Cream was pretty innovative at the time.

What about Slash?

I would def say stevie ray was a rock guitarist. He was a blues player at heart, but not a purist by any means.
Clapton is someone who i used to not give a lot of credit to, but lately have changed my views quite a bit. His work with cream on disreali gears is awesome. In regards to slash, i would say that he is arguably the best rock guitarist of the past 20 years but certainly not the all time best. Anyone else up for the honor?
